Best practices for device connection in academies/enterprises

Last updated :

Suppose you have 300 devices to manage, and each has a different user. Do you need to create a profile for every single user? If you do, you would have to update every single profile whenever you want to apply common rules. You wouldn't want the hassle of modifying 300 profiles just to block the YouTube app or add ebs.co.kr to the allowed sites list.

Now, let's look at the recommended configuration.

In academies or companies, there are usually groups that follow the same rules, such as "3rd Grade English Class," "HR Team," or "External Sales Team." First, define these groups and create them as profiles (=Add Child). In <Figure 1>, "3rd Grade English Class" is an example of a group. When dividing groups, the criteria should be whether they require different rules. Once the groups are created, connect the devices to be controlled. The advantage of this configuration is that changing a single rule for a group immediately applies the new rules to all devices connected within that group.

Separating Usage Statistics and Timeline Logs

Even if multiple devices are connected to a single profile (group), you can view usage statistics and timeline logs for each individual device using the "Select Device to View" feature. If you have not set a "Device Name," it defaults to the device model name, but you can change it to a nickname of your choice. The "Select Device to View" feature is available for users with an Enterprise10 or higher plan, or when 10 or more devices are connected.

Distinguishing Users by Device

You may need to identify who is using which device; you can distinguish them by changing the device name to the user's name as follows.

Smart Device Menu → Click Device Name → Change to User Name
